The Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD) has announced the disbursement of N8.6 billion as part of the pension arrears arising from the N32,000 increment approved by President Bola Tinubu in 2024.

According to a recent statement issued by PTAD, the latest payment covers 148,625 pensioners under the Defined Benefit Scheme (DBS), including retirees from the civil service, police, parastatals, as well as the Customs, Immigration, and Correctional Services.

This payout follows the earlier settlement of arrears from the first pension increment of 20–28%, which took effect from January 2024. The current instalment is part of the federal government’s continued implementation of the second pension adjustment approved in July 2024.

A breakdown of the payment reveals that N5.7 billion was paid to 59,342 pensioners in the Parastatals’ Pension Department; N2.3 billion to 71,084 pensioners under the Civil Service Pension Department; N310 million to 9,579 retired police officers; and N276 million to 8,620 retirees from the Customs, Immigration, and Correctional Service departments.

PTAD’s Executive Secretary, Madam Tolulope A. Odunaiya, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to fully settling all outstanding pension arrears. She noted that the disbursement reflects the President Tinubu administration’s determination to improve the welfare of pensioners under its Renewed Hope Agenda.
